Communication stations, equipment and personnel in Alaska, 1904-1963.

Scope and Contents The collection includes photographs of activity and personnel in the oil drilling industry. Several Alaskan communities are represented. Places photographed are primarily on Prince of Wales Island and include, Barrow, Craig, Hydaburg, Kasaan, Klawock, Point Baker, Port Protection, Thorne Bay, and others. Abstract

The Medal of Heroism contest was conducted by the Alaska Department of Education. 429 entries are filed in the box with information on the contest and a copy of the letter of selection from the judges. The design by Kathy Shapley of Craig, Alaska, was selected on January 26, 1966.

Scope and Contents

These colored transparencies and prints, taken between 1951-1965, depict village and rural schools and teachers' housing in Alaska. Portraits of men and women applying for teaching positions in Alaska are included as well as a pictorial essay compiled by the Sand Point High School students in December, 1973, “SOS - Save Our School.”.
